Feedback time.
I like the idea of a contest or a party-type gathering. I'm not so fond of the funeral idea for the simple fact that I don't see it as being believable. Particularly where we're striving for a cross-the-board demographic of characters. Can all of them afford to fly across the country for a funeral for someone they only know online? Whereas, with a contest and a party, such things as financial barriers fall away.
And if we're looking for a place for the party . . . how about a farm in Kentucky?
